Born near Paris and raised in New York, Niki de Saint Phalle (1930 - 2002) is best known for her "Nanas," large figurative sculptures made of brightly painted polyester, fiberglass or mosaic symbolic of female empowerment--Big, bold, and colorful--What a courageous woman! 1. I've always loved her work - her husband's sculpture is also kind of fun. There's a lovely book about them I read a long time ago. We happened upon some of her sculptures in Stockholm when we were there. - Nancy
